Simply stand in the sun with your wristwatch facing straight up, find north using the built-in compass, then you can read the time. When you flip the pointer up, it casts a shadow on the hour ring, showing you the time. If the sun isn't good because it's midday and doesn't cast a shadow, then you can adjust it using the clock. Flip open the angle display and tilt the hour ring so that the shadow falls back onto the hour ring.
